Masterpiece Baker Lake Sculpture! Magnificent Vintage Carving!
BARNABUS ARNASUNGAAQ was one of the earliest participants in the Baker Lake Carving Program.
The Canadian government established this program in the 1960's.
Barnabus was a print maker but is best known for his carvings.
In fact, he became an internationally renowned and leading figure in contemporary Inuit sculpture.
He is a pioneer from the 1st generation of Inuit carvers and is also one of the most highly decorated Inuit artists.
HEADSTRONG is a traditional Baker Lake carving.
The endemic basalt stone is very hard and therefore, extremely difficult to carve.
The artists minimize details and focus on outlines and size instead.
The look is Abstract and very popular among Inuit art collectors.
Headstrong sports a magnificent back hump, long thick coat and regal headpiece of horns and forehead “band”.
Every collector of Inuit art should have at least one Barnabus carving in their collection.
This is also the perfect gift to inspire a friend to begin collecting Inuit art.
